Alan Hawes, a photojournalist, spent two decades of his life photographing intimate moments of people’s lives. Once he became a registered nurse, he began photographing healthcare workers and patients suffering from COVID-19 in the critical care unit to spread awareness during the pandemic. On the following website you can find his photos of patients with helpless expressions on their faces, trapped behind masks, scared and alone. You can also find his images of healthcare workers, covered head-to-toe in protective equipment, fighting for their patients’ lives and dealing with the emotional toll of seeing so many patients suffering and dying. This website does a wonderful job of capturing the darkest moments of the COVID-19 pandemic. You can view the images here.
