Neonatal Nursing

Neonatal nurses care for newborn babies who cannot survive on their own without medical intervention. In the National Association of Neonatal Nurses’ video several nurses give personal accounts of what their job means to them, as well as the duties they take on at work. Neonatal nurses work with babies and their parents for days, weeks, or even months caring for the family as a whole. They provide special medical treatment for the baby with the goal of getting them stable enough to survive outside of the hospital. They also care for the parents by being a shoulder to cry on, listening to their concerns, and reassuring them when they are discouraged with their baby’s progress.
