What distinguishes a travel nurse from any other specialty? According to St. Catherine University’s article, a travel nurse takes temporary nursing positions where there is need. They enter positions in hospitals, clinics, and other facilities across the world and provide quality care where there are nursing shortages. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for travel nurses rose dramatically because so many nurses were leaving the profession due to burnout, while the need for medical care was higher than ever.
How does travel nursing work? Travel nurses sign a contract which lasts from anywhere between a few days to a few years to fill a temporary position. There are many benefits to this style of nursing, but there are also many challenges. While they get paid more than the average RN, they also have to endure inconsistent and hectic environments as they learn how each individual hospital works.
